Highlights and Next Steps

The discussion will focus on
the Third International Conference on Financing For Development that was
recently held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mr. Wuertz attended as the USAID Representative and will discuss the
highlights and next steps with respect to development finance in the region.
The Conference gathered
high-level political representatives, including Heads of State and Government,
and Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, all
relevant institutional stakeholders, non-governmental organizations and
business sector entities.
The Conference resulted in a
negotiated outcome which provides a new global framework for financing
sustainable development that aligns all financing flows and policies with
economic, social and environmental priorities.
It also resulted in a comprehensive set of policy actions by Member
States, with a package of over 100 concrete measures to support mobilization of
the means for a global transformation to sustainable development and
achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Our Speaker:
Robert E. Wuertz is a
former Mission Director and current Director for the Office of Economic Policy,
E3. In his current capacity, Mr. Wuertz
manages a group of economists providing technical services to missions and key
USAID initiatives including revenue mobilization and assessment of extreme
poverty. Mr. Wuertz has had many posts,
including Macedonia, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Manila and Ghana. Prior to Joining USAID, Mr. Wuertz served as
an Economic Advisor for the US Treasury in Saudi Arabia. Wuertz holds a Ph.D. in economics from the
University of Virginia, and a bachelor's in economics from Cornell University.
